Let’s check out some excellent Monster Romance books!

I watched Beauty and the Beast as a child and was pretty disappointed when the Beast turned into a boring prince. Was it the same for you?

Then these Monster Romance books are simply perfect for adult us! No one changes into a human here. But human protagonists get all the joy of finding the monstrously amazing love of their lives!

From cuddly aliens to demons, dragons to minotaurs, even monsters need love, and in these wonderful books, they find it.

My favorite Monster Romance book series

Mead Mishaps Series by Kimberly Lemming

The Mead Mishaps series is probably my all-time most favorite Monster Romance book series!

Set fully in a cozy, low-tech, medieval-vibes fantasy world, we accompany Cin in “That Time I Got Drunk And Saved A Demon” as she… well… saves a demon and then falls for him.

And in “That Time I Got Drunk And Yeeted A Love Potion At A Werewolf”, we get to know Cin’s best friend Brie better, who, well, throws a love potion at a werewolf who then imprints on her. Whoops!

I love the sense of humor in these books, as well as the captivating adventures and the sweet, sweet love. The perfect mix!

Deal with a Demon by Katee Robert

Katee Robert is (for very good reason) one of the most popular Monster Romance authors. And The Deal with a Demon series is simply fantastic and incredibly entertaining!

In The Dragon’s Bride, Briar Rose escapes an abusive marriage by making a deal with a demon. Her part of the bargain is to live with a dragon man and give him a chance to woo her.

The dragon, Sol, wants a child. But for Briar, the nature of their relationship – having been traded to Sol – as well as the limited timeframe, complicate things.

While she quickly starts to like Sol, she isn’t willing to consider a real relationship and a child if she is only allowed to stay in the dragon realm for seven years.

This first book also sets the scene for the other creatures and humans we meet in the following books.

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

The big blue guys from the ice planet are a gateway into Monster Romance books for many readers.

When I first started Ice Planet Barbarians, I was surprised at the unexpectedly dark beginning of this series. A group of human women gets abducted but are then left behind on a hostile ice planet. Only a small group of aliens manages to survive here, and they are willing to help the humans.

But there are other beings around who have a quite considerable influence on the relationships between the women and the blue guys…

Hidden Species by Louisa Masters

Louisa Masters is one of my go-to authors when it comes to Paranormal Romance books.

Demons Do It Better, the first Hidden Species book, is an incredibly entertaining Urban Fantasy Monster Romance. Sam is living a normal human life and is only accidentally hired for an office job managing the supernatural races.

But he loves his new job and co-workers. Plus, at the office, he gets to know Gideon, a broody, scary, very attractive demon.

This book is the start to an incredibly entertaining series that I loved dearly, featuring a different couple in every book and an overarching storyline. There are also spin-off series set in this world!

The Not Quite Series by Kaye Draper

Not Quite is a bit more Urban Fantasy than all-out Romance, but Sam simply had to be on here!

Sam is intersex, and throughout the Not Quite series, a polyamorous relationship with all kinds of people and monsters develops.

Sam has shifter blood and hunts monsters. But navigating this world, especially as someone who is “not quite human, not quite shifter, not quite man, and not quite woman”, is difficult and dangerous.

I had an absolute blast with the Not Quite series by Kaye Draper. It’s a fast-paced, steamy, very cool Urban Fantasy with lovable characters. And I simply adored Sam!

This is a Monster ROmance book series in the traditional sense as Sam is the protagonist in all of the books and will find their HEA at the end of the last book.

The Pykh Series by Eileen Glass

Are you ready for an adventure? Then go with Carter to the space cats’ planet!

Siel, Pykh, and Carter get to know each other in a cage. The two furry aliens and the human space marine are slaves to some yucky bug people. But together, they manage to escape captivity and have to track through a jungle to get to safety.

This is such an incredibly captivating, atmospheric series with amazing audiobook narration.

Honestly, Pykh and Siel are way too cute and fluffy to be considered monsters, but they ARE giant alien cat people, so… There you have it.

The audiobook trilogy is narrated by the amazing Joel Leslie, who fills these stories with so much life, and brings out their emotions and depth. I can highly recommend the audio version!

The fourth Pykh book has just been released.

Stand-alone Monster Romance Books

A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley

If you are looking for monstrously fun times, this adorable paranormal Rom-Com is exactly what you need!

A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon is entertaining and super sexy. And I loved the heroine’s special power.

Mariel was supposed to be the most powerful witch in her community. But then, she only manifested plant magic. And her family makes sure to share their disappointment with her on a regular basis.

To make matters worse, Mariel accidentally summons a demon instead of flour. And the demon says he can only leave once she has made a bargain for her soul…

Love Laugh Lich by Kate Prior

Love Laugh Lich is perfect escapism! The setting cracked me up, and I did not expect how the lich would be spun into a desirable Romance hero. Ooh, but is he ever!

I don’t want to give anything away about this two-hour-long sweet and spicy treat. But if you are looking for something fun and “fun” (wink wink, nudge nudge), then this Monster Romance is perfect!

Morning Glory Milking Farm by C.M. Nascosta

Morning Glory Milking Farm by C.M. Nascosta has been an absolute break-out hit and made Monster Romance books even more popular!

This is a very well-written indie Romance about a woman who is struggling after finishing college. When she can’t find a job in her field, she accepts a position as a “milking technician” in a facility that “milks” male Minotaurs to produce potency-enhancing medication for human men.

Violet is conflicted about the job but soon finds an entirely new community among supernatural beings…

Queer and M/M Monster Romance

Pack of Lies by Charlie Adhara

This M/M Monster Romance has a central mystery and a bit of a creepy feeling.

Eli and Julien both have a lot of secrets, and it takes time for them to grow closer. Especially because they are quite busy with the weird things that keep happening in Maudit Falls.

I found it so fascinating to discover the supernatural world with Julien, and was captivated by this book! It has a great cast of characters in an awesome creepy manor house mystery setting.

AITA? by Cassie Alexander

AITA? is a fun, fast-paced love story between a human woman who is having her bisexual awakening and a lesbian demon.

Becky is stuck in a loveless relationship. When her fiance wants to spice things up, he summons a demon who should join the couple in bed.

Who shows up is Quenalith, and she most certainly won’t play along with this plan. She does, however, find Becky extremely appealing.

After their unfortunate first encounter, Becky and the demon keep running into one another. I had such a blast with this cute Monster Romance!

Beauty and His Beast by Bey Deckard

This retelling of the most classic of Monster Romance stories is absolutely captivating and extremely sexy!

Beauty and His Beast is set on a spaceship. Marrex believes himself cursed and spends his life alone, cruising the universe.

But then, a young human man happens to land on board, and while Marrex tries to avoid him, the two are drawn to one another.

Dead Collections by Isaac Fellman

Sol is a trans man and has been a vampire for five years, a condition that seriously lowers your life expectancy, what with the sensitivity to sunlight and all.

Elsie is a young widow who asks Sol to archive her late wife’s work.

The take on vampirism resonated very strongly with me and is a fascinating way to think about bodies, identity, illness, and generally how weird and difficult being a person and having a body can be.

Dead Collections by Isaac Fellman is a wonderful, emotional, mesmerizing queer Monster Romance novel!

Eternally Yours, an anthology edited by Patrice Caldwell

This Monster Romance anthology is perfection!

It’s a beautiful mix of diverse and unique stories with monsters and supernatural beings you don’t often encounter.

I loved every single short story here, and the audio version was truly a treat as the stories were all narrated so well by a range of outstanding voice actors. I can’t recommend it enough to my fellow Monster Romance fans!
