The Romance genre has so much diversity to offer. And what we get to enjoy more and more often now are autistic Romance heroes and heroines as well as protagonists with ADHD.
Fortunately, there’s a growing appreciation for stories that transcend traditional narratives and offer fresh, inclusive perspectives, while also celebrating the universal themes of love, connection, and understanding.

With You Forever by Chloe Liese
Chloe Liese’s Bergman Brothers needed another mention here!
Chloe Liese always centers characters in her stories who don’t usually get a lot of representation in Romance and Rooney from With You Forever is another great example of that.
Rooney has a form of Inflamed Bowel Syndrome and is just going through a flare-up. The book is very real about her symptoms and everything that comes along with them. And it makes her love story with Axel all the more beautiful!
I loved this book and its representation of a heroine with a chronic illness and an autistic hero who enter a marriage of convenience. CJ Bloom and Nelson Hobbs brought it to life so well in the audio version!
Glitterland by Alexis Hall
Ash is the archetypical depressed author! He is struggling with an enormous writer’s block and anxiety that often doesn’t allow him to even leave the house. And then the most unlikely partner shows up, a ridiculous glitter pirate!
Alexis Hall has quickly become one of my absolute favorite authors. And Glitterland is simply one of the best Romance audiobooks of all time! The complex characters, the unlikely match, the emotions, the struggle… This book will move you and touch you and make you feel all the feelings! Nicholas Boulton brought all of this out so beautifully!
Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley
Love, Comment, Subscribe is set in the world of professional YouTubers where Lily is trying to make a name for herself as a beauty influencer. She very much does not want to be considered a nerd anymore!
Tobin is a former high school “friend” she only hung out with because she felt she had to. He belonged to the same group of nerdy friends as Lily. After one of his YouTube videos becomes a viral hit, she reluctantly reaches out to him to collaborate so she can grow her own reach.
Lily and Tobin aren’t exactly best friends. But they share such a deep connection because they have known each other for so long. Tobin knows sides of Lily she doesn’t show anymore.
But they find such a great balance together, they support each other and help each other see themselves and their goals more clearly.
All the Feels by Olivia Dade
Aw man, All The Feels by Olivia Dade is so good! It’s one of my all-time favorites and a must-read for Romance fans, seriously!
Alex is a popular and successful actor, but he also has ADHD and is prone to making decisions that aren’t necessarily best for his career. That’s why Lauren is hired as his “babysitter”.
The two are so utterly, heartbreakingly sweet together. It melted my heart!
This book had me laughing out many times, but, just like Spoiler Alert, it also goes into topics that are not so easy to deal with. One thing I particularly appreciated about this book is that Lauren is not in any way presented as a beautiful heroine. She isn’t. She is overweight and she has a crooked nose.
But it is still completely believable that Alex is attracted to her and falls for her. Such a wonderful, wonderful book with two utterly lovable people! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert
Talia Hibbert can write Romantic Comedies like nobody else. This book is like the warm and cozy blanket on a beautiful, comfy sofa, in that adorable inn… wait, where was I going with this?
Anyway, Eve and Jacob are both utterly lovable, real, believable, and they make such a perfect match!
Jacob is grumpy, Eve is sunshine, and she secretly lives in one of his rooms.
Jacob knows that he is autistic while Eve only suspects she might be neurospicy.
If Only You by Chloe Liese
The last Bergman sibling is finding her happily ever after! Ziggy is a truly wonderful character who really gets to shine in her own book. And she makes such a fascinating match with her brother Ren’s best friend.
Ren insists that Sebastian is a good guy, but everyone sees him as a bad boy. And that reputation is exactly what Ziggy wants to get rid of her own good-girl image.
CJ Bloom and Nelson Hobbs did a wonderful job with this entire series and brought Ziggy and Sebastian to life perfectly! I simply love this series and can’t recommend it enough!
